ABOUT ORTHODONTICS

Dental brace is the solution for all people who want to enjoy perfectly equal teeth regardless of age. Thanks to a wide range of braces, we are able to cope with the most incorrect position of teeth. From crowding, reverse bite or protrusion of the mandible to complicated cases of overlapping teeth. Modern orthodontics offers a comprehensive treatment plan for the patient and full care during the process of correcting malocclusion.

How is malocclusion formed?

Talking about malocclusion and making a diagnosis of its origin, it is worth paying attention to the background conditions of its occurrence.

congenital malocclusion – being the consequence of complications and abnormal development during pregnancy. It has genetic origins, which are responsible for foetal development disorders, inhibition of normal bone development and growth. Very often, malocclusion can only be a symptom of a more complicated maxillofacial defect. It is manifested by mandibular retrusion or protrusion, open bite, i.e. upper and lower teeth not touching each other when the mouth is closed, or abnormal overlapping of teeth.

acquired malocclusion – a number of factors that result from habits (sucking the thumb or pacifier for a very long time), or a complication of some diseases. Malocclusion can also develop in consequence of complications of improper prosthetic treatment, e.g. ill-fitting crowns, bridges.

Why is it worth visiting an orthodontist?

Healthy, white and at the same time equal teeth are undoubtedly an aspect of beauty that increases your self-confidence. But these are not only aesthetic reasons that should entice you to visit a good orthodontist. It is commonly observed that there is an increasing awareness of the consequences of uncorrected malocclusion. From simple speech defects, incorrect lip line, to a range of health problems that result from in inadequate food chewing. In addition, the pressure on the teeth that occurs when biting food is incorrect and causes more strain on some teeth than on others. In addition, the crowded teeth constantly press against each other, gradually pushing each other out. In the case of a larger malocclusion that is neglected, it may aggravate over the years.

Malocclusion causes more frequent inflammation of the oral cavity and dental caries. Due to the incorrect spacing of teeth, these changes develop in places that are difficult to access and often virtually invisible.

What a good orthodontist offers – the various types of braces

The constantly developing field of orthodontics offers a wide range of braces. From classic to practically invisible ones for the most demanding patients. The selection process also depends on the degree of the patient’s defect. We care about our patients’ satisfaction, that’s why our orthodontist always offers braces that meet their aesthetic and financial expectations.

Fixed braces

The most classic, but also the most frequently used braces. Based primarily on brackets and arches that stick to the surface of all teeth. brackets are made of different materials that facilitate the achievement of the most natural effect. In contrast to the classic titanium brackets that are visible, there are porcelain or crystal brackets. Occurring in a transparent version or in colour that is the closest to the patient’s teeth, they guarantee the best aesthetic effect thanks to their minimal visibility.

Lingual braces

This is another aesthetic version of fixed braces that is placed entirely on the inside part of the teeth. Thanks to advanced computer technology, lingual braces are custom designed based on the patient’s defect, also taking the shape of patient’s teeth into account. This solution is suitable for people in whom it is necessary to combine the fixed braces application with aesthetic looks required at their workplace. Lingual braces provide a solution that combines comfort with maximum visual effect.

Self-ligating braces

This is one of the most modern proposals recommended by good orthodontists and more and more eagerly chosen and appreciated by patients. Self-ligating braces allow you to achieve a perfectly straight bite even in the most complicated cases. They exclude the need to remove single teeth from too crowded dentition, which is often required in the case of classic braces. A modern system of brackets also excludes the use of interarch rubber bands. The brace structure is based on the installation of a metal arch directly to the brackets that are equipped in supporting flaps that can be opened and closed. The self-ligating braces use a greater direct force of impact on the teeth, shortens the treatment time, and also increases the comfort by eliminating pain caused by the movement of teeth.

Invisalign braces

Invisalign is a modern and innovative method of correcting malocclusion using replaceable aligners. The transparent, thin overlays are made on individual patient’s order. This is a proposal for those who want to keep the fact of undergoing teeth straightening procedure to themselves and have slight malocclusion. Virtually imperceptible, they provide maximum comfort throughout the entire process of the corrective process as it is possible to remove them when eating and cleaning teeth. The orthodontist replaces the aligners every 2 weeks, in which the teeth move by a millimetre. This translates into high effectiveness of bite correction from the very moment of their application. Most importantly, the first noticeable effects are visible already in the first month.

How long does it take to correct malocclusion?

There is no clear answer to this question because it is an individual matter in each patient. The assumed standard period of 2 years is the interval needed to correct truly advanced malocclusion. The time necessary to straighten the teeth in fact depends on the initial teeth position, the solutions that are recommended by the orthodontist and the individual patient’s predispositions. Small defects and small crowding can be treated in just a few months. The entire malocclusion correction process must also involve the initial oral health status and the time possibly needed for hygienic procedures preparing the patient for brace application. Proper oral health and hygiene care is also important as well as regular follow-up visits at the orthodontist.

What additional procedures do you need before the application of braces?

Each application of an orthodontic appliance is preceded by a preparatory procedure. The actions recommended by the orthodontist depend on the patient’s oral health status. Sometimes they are associated with previous filling of cavities, curing inflammation of the teeth and gums. One of the most important procedures is the thorough cleaning of teeth from plaque or calculus. Not only does this accelerate the straightening procedure, but also increases the chance for proper and non-complicated treatment of malocclusion.

Good orthodontist price list – what does the cost of treatment depend on?

The price of orthodontic treatment is not fixed because it consists of a number of factors, which include the materials and procedures used. First of all, the initial price depends on the appliance that will be used in orthodontic treatment. The next component of the prices is associated with the follow-up visits to the orthodontist that are necessary in the entire process of malocclusion correction. However, in the DentystaSzczecin dental practice, when arranging the orthodontic treatment plan, we always adjust it to the budget available to the patient, so that the patient can receive the best corrective solutions available to them. Our orthodontist enjoys the trust of the patients that has been built for years. We are here for you, accepting new challenges every day and proving that we can correct even the most twisted occlusion.
